Functionality of the Slim Login Manager

Using XFCE4.4.0 + Slim as the login manager, I was wondering about the following additional options, which can be set in /etc/slim.conf:

# Commands for halt, login, etc.
halt_cmd /sbin/shutdown -h now
reboot_cmd /sbin/shutdown -r now
console_cmd /usr/bin/xterm -C -fg white -bg black +sb -T "Console login$
suspend_cmd /usr/bin/powersave

# shutdown / reboot messages
shutdown_msg System wird heruntergefahren...
reboot_msg System wird neu gestartet...

I already tried different themes, but there seems to be no option-selector to choose shutdown / reboot / xterm / suspend, nor do I see messages like shutdown or reboot when choosing these option on XFCE4 logout. There also seems to be no session selector (although the only defined session is xfce4 in my case).

Anybody any idea?

P.S. I'm starting slim with the included /etc/rc.d script, if that has any relevance.

Re: Functionality of the Slim Login Manager

To shutdown/reboot from within slim, use "halt" or "reboot" as the username and enter the root password. And to enable the options in XFCE, add your user to the "power" group (gpasswd -a user power) smile

But I also have a related query, does anyone know if there is any way to enable user friendly shutdown/reboot buttons in slim? Also, as no user is logged in when slim is started, surely the superuser password should not be required to halt the system?

Oh, now I rememeber to have read somewhere about those commands as username, but surely a chooser would be the better functionality.

I think I'll remove Slim again, and just use the console login with .xinitrc to automatically start XFCE4, because there isn't really any difference (having bootsplash on vc1 can also be a nice thing), and it speeds up booting a little.
