I have a framework laptop and I observed that I have a ton of messages like that in my journal.
kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:c3:00.0: Refused to change power state from D0 to D3hot
Can anyone give me a hint how to fix this and what the actual matter is?
Since I also got complains about missing firmware xhci_pci_renesas, I installed the firmware from the AUR upd72020x-fw.
After that I still have the messages, but also a lot more messages:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACPI#Device_states
But the device on 3-5 doesn't properly respond at all, maybe it's underpowered tbw.
Any idea what that is? (probably some external device)
Offline
I don't have any external devices connected and I don't know what it could be.

I also created now a topic here https://community.frame.work/t/internal … rnal/71048 because probably somewhere there somebody could know, what the device could be.

I have in the bays in the back two usb-c cards. In the front left USB-A and in the front right an SD-Card reader which is empty.
Have you tried plugging something into either?
Did you assemble the system yourself? Flipped/shortened connector?
Offline
I assembled it myself, but I followed strictly the installation guide.
Strangely those other messages about USB 3-5 are not present today, while they were there yesterday between several reboots.
I powered it off yesterday and today all I am left with is the power state message.
I am unsure what USB 3-5 actually refferes to.
I tried out the external ports of the Laptop with different devices.
Back right is USB-C with my phone resulting in journalmessage
kernel: usb 5-1: new high-speed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd
with lsusb
Bus 005 Device 007: ID 18d1:4ee1 Google Inc. Nexus/Pixel Device (MTP)

front right SD reader
kernel: usb 4-2: new SuperSpeed USB device number 15 using xhci_hcd
Bus 004 Device 015: ID 32ac:0009 Framework SD Expansion Card
I shortly thought that 3-5 would refer to BUS 3 and device 5, but looking on the data above, it doesn't.
I guess it has to be BUS3, but probably an internal device.
Other devices listed on BUS3 are:
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 32ac:001c Framework Laptop Webcam Module (2nd Gen)
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0e8d:0717 MediaTek Inc. Wireless_Device
Regarding the other messages about the power states I looked at the following:

So I guess 0000:c3:00.0 is USB Bus 4. Which could be related to the SD-Card reader.

I am stupid grep for 3-5 sows that 3-5 is the wifi card, which I will replace anyway, because it is not really stable.
Offline
The other message regarding the power state is the SD-Card reader. Once I put an SD card in, the messages stop. When I pull it out, they continue.
Offline
Swapping SD and USB-A seems to stop the messages.
