Using a KVM for my desktop.

I have a widescreen monitor and a PC which I recently bought. I also have a laptop and I want to use it with a KVM to switch between my PC and my laptop. Unfortunately when I plug it in the HDMI cables, my monitor on the PC end is at 800x600 and the mouse and keyboard doesnt respond at all.  Any option on how to go around fixing it?

The KVM consist on:
3 HDMI ports
3 USB ports
2 3mm to USB inputs

Monitor resolution switching not working optimal is one thing, but the mouse and keyboard not responding is probably an entirely different problem and I recommend focusing on that first.

Are both the PC and laptop running Arch?

Assuming the PC is running Arch, with the kvm switched to the PC, reboot the PC and check the journal and dmesg. If the mouse/keyboard is still missing, post the journal from that boot.
