I've had this issue for some time now but it just now occurred to me to get up and come ask about it, since I figured I wouldn't be able to figure this out myself anyways. If I set a sound file to play (I've tried other formats, mind you) in the "Sounds" option for anything, HexChat/XChat (Tried both) simply refuses to play them. I'm guessing I'm missing something that's needed for HexChat to communicate with pulseaudio?

Do you specify a command as the sound player, e.g.: aplay %f
... *without* quotes? Probably *need* quotes, to work with the space in "IRC Files".

I've tried it in different directories before; also how would I do that?

Hey, I had this issue on my laptop, check that you have sox installed, it seems like hexchat uses it to play audio
