Wired headphones has no audio and is not detected

Hello, I ordered some new Sennheiser 650's and while I have tested them on Windows (they work), I cannot get them to work properly on arch. I'm not very knowledgeable about Linux sound issues, as I have never had a problem with it. Previously I had a Corsair VOID headset, which used a bluetooth USB dongle.

Whenever I check MATE sound preferences, I only see two options:

GA104 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Stereo (HDMI)

Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller Digital Stereo (IEC958)

When I choose HDMI it plays through my monitors, and I am not sure what IEC958 is, but nothing happens. I am fairly sure that the new headset is not being detected at all, as when I plug and unplug it, nothing seems to change in available outputs.

I believe my system should be running on pulseaudio, but this is the result from the command.

Do you plug these into your jack and not via USB? Then it needs to be a profile of the HD audio card but definitely not a digital one. What output do you get from the following:

systemctl --user status pipewire{.-pulse} wireplumber pulseaudio
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*

(OT but the underlying issue might need to be fixed there similarly anyway, I'd suggest you install pipewire-pulse and wireplumber to replace pulseaudio with, they are much more actively maintained)

I also went a head and did as you suggested and installed pipewire-pulse and wireplumber.

The system/pipewire doesn't detect an analog output do be available, where are you plugging this in exactly? You can try to force enable the analog output with a 

pactl set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_0c_00.4 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

that should expose the analog controls regardless. Alternatively if this doesn't help, try a 

amixer -c1 set 'Master',0 100% unmute
speaker-test -Dhw:1 -c2

does the last command give you noise on the headphone? Do you happen to have a parallel Windows installation? Ensure https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dual_b … ibernation fast boot is properly disabled.

I am plugging the headset into the rear AUX port into my motherboard.

The last command does seem to give me noise output, and after further tinkering within MATE and KDE ( I am running both), I can sometimes get the test options to run only in very specific settings. But it never works all of the time. For example, if I set the sound to "Pro Audio" within Playback Devices I can get a sound only on aux2 and aux3 (but not aux 0, 1, 4, 5). However even with that there is no system sound. The other sound options such as Digital Stereo doesn't produce any sound.

So it seems the Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller Pro is the correct device, but for some reason (maybe conflicting configs between MATE and KDE) it is not being set as the correct audio device. When I try to force firefox to use this device, nothing seems to happen. So sound can come through, but only in those test commands.

Also I do not have a windows dual boot.
