MARVELL Networkcard strange problems

Hi

I have a very strange problem. I have a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Mainboard.
There are two onboard Gigabit ports, one NV (Nvidia) and a Marvell Youcon.

It worked fine with windows.
But after installing Linux (dualboot Win/Lin) there is a big problem.

After loading the sk98lin module the connection worked fine under linux but the BIOS says that the Marvell connection is dead (179m cable detected, with and without cable) and under windows the connection is dead, too.
Back under Linux with the sk98lin module the NIC is OK again.

Does the driver modify the BIOS of the PC or the NIC?
What have I to do to reactivate the NIC in the BIOS and under Windows?

TIA
Chris

Re: MARVELL Networkcard strange problems

are you currently using the most recent bios version?
bios update could be all that is needed
have you tried turning the card off in the bios & see if linux still detects it?

Re: MARVELL Networkcard strange problems

hi

yes, I have the most recent BIOS.
after switching off the card in the BIOS linux didn´t see it anymore.

the point is that linux can still access the card but the BIOS and Windows not after using the linux driver one time!
what does the linux driver change in my system?

Hi

I found the bug!

If I use the "skge" instead of the "sk98lin" driver everything is fine!

I will have to try this out, I have been having the same issues with my asus a8v deluxe which just has the one marvell network card. Thanks for posting this.

Re: MARVELL Networkcard strange problems

This also helped for the Marvell chipset running on an ASUS P5GZ-MX. skge driver allows a net connection; and the other does not.
