grub-mkconfig fails for e2fsck check because its mounted

Ok this is real stupid and annoying. I'm arch-chroot in and trying to run grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg and I get this error:

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

fsck from util-linux 2.41.1
e2fsck 1.47.3 (8-Jul-2025)
/dev/md125 is mounted.
e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting.

Of course it's mounted. It has to be mounted to install and chroot, that's so dumb. I've installed many times before and never seen this. Why is it doing this and how to get past it? I'm blocked and can't install at all.
