Hello,
I’m new to Arch Linux and recently installed it on my ThinkPad T490s.
When I first booted the live USB to install Arch, the system froze during boot unless I added nomodeset to the kernel parameters. With nomodeset, I was able to complete the installation successfully following the Arch Wiki.
However, after installation, I still cannot boot the installed system without nomodeset — it freezes during the boot process (black screen, no error message) rather than this:
Loading Linux linux ...
Loading initial ramdisk ...
. (And like Stuck)
As far as I understand from the Wiki, nomodeset disables kernel mode setting for graphics and prevents me from using the graphics driver, so I’d like to fix this.
What I’ve tried so far:
Booting without nomodeset → freeze during boot
Using nomodeset → boots fine, but no graphics acceleration
Haven’t installed any extra Intel graphics driver packages beyond what comes with mesa
