Hello,
Doing the latest updates results in a black screen, not even a flashing cursor. TTY is available and a downgrade fixes it.
Pacman log http://0x0.st/8CFw.txt
Journal http://0x0.st/8CFn.txt
[2025-08-14T15:24:31+0200] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] ==> WARNING: Possibly missing firmware for module: 'qat_6xxx'Would seem to be the main difference.
Is this a case of wait for the other packages to catch up?
There was an error with the nvidia files which has cleared and so I did the linux.zen and headers alone and that did boot, only when adding the nvidia packages did it fail.

Thank you, I have removed the budgie screensaver.
I have added the export and will try an upgrade.

No, the variable should already be set, if it's not, or set to something else, there's a problem elsewhere.

I just highlighted the line because w/ cinnamon you're in the gtk4 realm and the known situation might apply.
GSK_RENDERER=ngl is actually schroedinger's environment - if it's already there (since the driver ships it and you problably don't locally override it) the plan would be to get rid of it.
If not:
1. why
2. try to add it
Offline
I didn't have it, I added it, no change. I removed it still the same. Last boot with upgrades http://0x0.st/8CCQ.txt
I see this in the journal
Aug 14 16:13:31 silex kernel: platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2
Aug 14 16:13:31 silex kernel: cfg80211: failed to load regulatory.dbThis has nothing to do with it, it is in the working boot journal also.
I have upgrade kernel and headers and still boots OK http://0x0.st/Krr-.txt
So it is just nvidia-open-dkms nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils

It does load but there is a 30 seconds (approx) delay from when the normal desktop would appear and this loading.

The journal and lsmod output and the xorg log fall apart.
Why is the latter operating on nouveau??
Do you get the same w/ the non-open, normally evil nvidia module?
Offline
I have been using open since the nvidia non-open kept breaking, Is this Cinnamon related? This is new for me, I swapped out XFCE after the keybdled issue.

According to the posted Xorg log you are NOT running on the nvidia module, but nouveau (which is the weird part)
Something about the data you posted doesn't add up and we'll have to sort that out.
Can you please post journal, xorg and lightdm log w/ the 575xx driver?
nvidia non-open kept breaking
What does that mean?

Do you still have the X11 log for that attempt?
Also what do you mean by "no wallpaper"? The OP suggested

When the desktop finally loaded the desktop wallpaper was missing, just black, there were icons and everything else visible just the wallpaper missing. I removed the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nudge_nvidia.conf rebooted and it was all back to normal. Just the delay in loading the desktop.

Edit lightdm.service and add a strategic "ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/sleep 1"… (the delay in the journal is actually 19s, so maybe 1s won't cut it)
The nvidia modules already are in the initramfs, nothing to gain there…

This seems to work, I started with sleep 5, and it loads much quicker, I will edit that until it breaks and let you know.
Thank you.
Sleep 1 works, so that is solved, thank you.

The tighter the delay the more fragile this gets.
Sidebar, if you add "nvidia_drm.modeset=1 nvidia_drm.fbdev=0" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters - do you get away w/o the sleep (that's not necessarily a viable strategy and more to investigate the oranges of the problem)
