[SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

I updated my system and after a restart, SDDM refused to show and stuck at blinking cursor. Manually starting kde on another tty works and systemctl status sddm shows no errors.

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General (unless you've configured SDDM to run on a wayland compositor in which case you'll have to elaborate on that)
Just in case: the 580xx nvidia drivers has quite some problems, one of them apparently being complete vulkan failure…

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

[ 5.635] Kernel command line: initrd=\arch\boot\x86_64\initramfs-linux.img archisobasedir=arch archisosearchuuid=2025-07-01-17-34-06-00

Why are there archiso entries?

[ 5.998] (II) NVIDIA: The X server does not support PRIME Render

The module path doesn't get extended, meaning the outputclass doesn't apply - the actual error is shadowed by the static server config (the file you're supposed to remove)
There're no outputs attached to the nvidia GPU, so it's questionable why you'd run that server config tbw.

Fwwi, you're likely in the same category as https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=307580

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

Downgrading the nvidia-utils package seems to fix the problem. No idea about the iso though. Could it be because of secure boot?

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

Could it be because of secure boot?

No. These parameters exist in the install iso, but should™ not appear in an installation.

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

This seems to be a race condition, the GPU takes toolong™ to init.

Can i just delete it from /proc/cmdline safely?

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

In theory - but w/o knowing what you did to have them show up there I cannot predict the impact at all.
But iIff it ends up disastrous (what I do not expect), you can just re-add them.

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

The actual problem was I skipped over this step, assuming it's "fine" since 575 driver worked with it but the driver was actually disabled. Adding the kernel modules fixed it.

Re: [SOLVED]SDDM stuck on blinking cursor

That actually fits the other thread except there even early kms wasn't "fast enough"™
