My wifi device stopped working after a failed suspend. I ran
systemctl suspend, but it failed for some reason, and my PC became totally unresponsive, so I had no choice but cut the power.

Solution
I followed lugu's post:
1. Install linux-lts and update grub (not sure the grub part is needed):
sudo pacman -R linux-lts
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
2. Power off and unplug the power cable for a few minutes (not sure if this is needed).
3. Boot the Linux LTS
I'd like to emphasize that "unplug the power cable for a few minutes" is an essential part; without that, it doesn't work.

Please use

tags, the BBS predates markdown by approximately your age. Edit your post in this regard.
Then please post the system journal covering the misbehaving sleep.
For the running boot:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.stAccording to the lspci output the device is there but not used by the iwlwifi driver
ip a # check status quo
sudo modprobe -r iwlmvm iwlwifi
sudo modprobe iwlwifi # reload the module
rfkill block wlan # speculative on the device "wlan"
rfkill unblock wlan # speculative on the device "wlan"
ip a # check status pro…Online
I'll provide some more context, I thought this is probably irrelevant, but might turn out to be useful.
This happened approximately a month ago, but initially I thought that this has nothing to do with the failed suspend, and caused by a bug in the kernel:
https://lore.kernel.org/linux-wireless/ … ian.local/
According to this message, it should be solved in 6.16, so I was hoping that the problem will just solve itself. Now I'm running the 6.16 kernel, and it's still broken.
Unfortunately this means that I don't have the logs for that particular boot:
❯ sudo journalctl -b -4
No journal boot entry found for the specified boot (-4).Normally the network device is called `wlan0`, but it doesn't show up at all in `ip a`. (Also slightly offtopic, but what's the proper way to format inline code?)
Reloading `iwlwifi` doesn't help either. I'm not familiar with `iwlmvm`, I don't think that it's usually loaded when I'm using my PC.
`rfkill` didn't help either; the wifi device doesn't even show up, it only sees bluetooth:
➜ rfkill list
0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: noI think this can go two ways:
- If the issue is caused by the failed suspend (I think this is more likely), then the device is probably in some bad state. I should somehow reset it into a good state, but I don't know how.
- If the issues is caused by the aforementioned kernel bug, what can I do? I already tried the LTS kernel, and it didn't work.

You mean the NIC doesn't show up since a month at all?
Please post your complete system journal for the current boot then:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.stSanity check: is there a parallel windows installation? Do you have https://archlinux.org/packages/core/any … are-intel/ installed?
Online
Yes, it's not showing up since a month.
Journal from current boot: http://0x0.st/KrYt.txt
I ran a `systemctl suspend`, hoping that it would add something useful to the journal.
There's no parallel windows installation; this PC never ran bare metal windows (only in VM, but I don't think it's relevant, since I don't do PCI passthrough).
I do have `linux-firmware-intel` installed; in fact, I have `linux-firmware`, which pulls in a bunch of dependencies, including `linux-firmware-intel`: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Linux_firmware
The wiki says I can detect loaded firmware like this:
➜ sudo journalctl -kg 'loaded f'
-- No entries --Maybe this "No entries" indicating some issue?

Maybe this "No entries" indicating some issue?

1. remove the IOMMU parameters
2. add iwlwifi and iwlmvm to the initramfs (maybe you'll get fw loading issues later on but we want to see whether the thing responds at all)
3. Post the output of "lspci -tvnn" (let's see what' next to the wifi chip)
Instead of 1 & 2, consider just booting eg. https://grml.org/ and see whether the chip responds there.

Yes, I have experimented with VFIO years ago; looks like I just forgot those are there. I don't use it currently, so I'll just remove those options.

I turned off the computer with `shutdown now` many times; I never unplugged it.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them and let you know the results.

I didn't reboot yet, but I tried adding the modules to the initramfs. I'm using `mkinitcpio`, I added this to my config, is this correct?
MODULES=(iwlwifi iwlmvm)I never touched this part of the config file, I only added `HOOKS`.
After this, I ran `mkinitcpio -P` to re-generate the initramfs, and I got a bunch of warnings:

I tried Grml, but it has the same issue.
I removed the iommu-related kernel parameters and added iwlwifi and iwlmvm to the initramfs; here is the output of `journalctl -b`: http://0x0.st/KrUK.txt

I tried Grml, but it has the same issue.
Is the card soldered on-board or a removable card? Can you re-seat it?
The two(!?) wired NICs work fine? Is one of them a custom addition?

Everything is built in. The two ethernet ports and the wifi, all came with the motherboard. Both the ethernet ports work fine.

You could try to disable the wifi in the UEFI, boot, reboot, enable it and see whether the chip responds.
Or completely reset the cmos.
Currently sounds a lot like a HW problem ![]()

Tried it, didn't help. Looks like I have to accept the fact that the hardware is broken. Anyway, thank you so much for your help ![]()

As a last ditch effort, might be worth Installing Windows on an external drive and see if the Windows driver can revive it.
It also does not show up in a live Arch or Ubuntu boot?

I have the same issue.
- Output of journalctl -b: http://0x0.st/Ksm_.txt
- It happened about a week ago (not exactly sure).
- I didn't change the BIOS setting before it happened.
- It could have happened after a forced power off.
- Windows is not installed.
- I have tried to disable various BIOS options related to power management. It didn't solve the problem.
- I have updated the system. It didn't solve the problem.
- Output of lspci -tnnv : http://0x0.st/KsmJ.txt

Does linux-lts work? Also check with a live system (Arch or Ubuntu LTS).

@nemarci can you please post the journal from a grml boot?

Sure, I'll do it in the evening, if you think it could be useful. I checked the logs when I booted grml, and I remember that the same error code appeared as in my main system:
probe with driver iwlwifi failed with error -110Does linux-lts work? Also check with a live system (Arch or Ubuntu LTS).
Tried linux-lts and booting from grml, neither of them worked.

Seems I am not alone:

The interesting bit:

Booting from a usb iso doesn't solve the problem
Completely power down the system, in doubt reset the CMOS, do not boot the installed system but only the live distro from usb.
Does the wifi nic respond again?

I got it fixed. Today. Here is what i did:
1. Install linux-lts and update grub (not sure the grub part is needed):
sudo pacman -R linux-lts
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
2. Power off and unplug the power cable for a few minutes (not sure if this is needed).
3. Boot the Linux LTS
At this stage iwlwifi was working fine!
Then I un-installed linux-lts. Power off. And booted linux 6.16.1-arch1-1 (the non lts version I was running that had issues), and the wifi is still working. Some state has changed: I don't know if it got fixed with the unplugging of the power cable or the LTS version. Anyway, give it a try and let us know.

And thank you seth for solving this.

Thank you so much, this worked for me too! I'd like to add that the key part is "unplug the power cable for a few minutes". I did everything else before and it didn't work.

It started to get suspicious when more people showed up w/ the exact same symptoms - your wifi's weren't fused all at once ![]()
