System encryption and assistance required

I installed Arch Linux and have been using it for the last four months. Recently, I realized that my Arch installation’s root filesystem is not encrypted—I hadn’t set it up initially. I’ve customized the system, configured the styling, and it’s been running without issues. Now I want to know: is it possible to encrypt the root filesystem without performing a fresh installation, or do I need to reinstall to do this?

Re: System encryption and assistance required

It's possible but very risky to do so and definitely not recommend to a newbie. I would advise you to go with a fresh install if you have time for that.

Cheers!

Sure, here you go: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dm-cry … ile_system

Same wiki page also talks about encrypting your file system with a fresh install. Whichever method you choose, please don't forget take backups of your files. Things can go sour very easily, especially when you are configuring your disks. Good luck!

Oh also, if things gets seem too complicated for you (it was for me that's how I know big_smile) don't hesitate to use archinstall. It really makes the process of encrypting disks very easy.

Cheers!
