How .SRCINFO files are used besides the AUR?

.SRCINFO files were added to https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/ … /packages/, for example generate missing .SRCINFO.

Why are they needed there? I guess, there should be a tool which needs a package metadata and for some reason it can't get the metadata from .PKGINFO (ok, the package might not be built at that moment), and can't generate the metadata on-the-fly with "makepkg --printsrcinfo"…
