[SOLVED] aur/i7z on my update list. Is it safe?

Hello guys, aur/i7z just popped when I ran yay. I see it's some kind of i7 recognition program but AUR package is fairly new so after these latest AUR malwares I'm not sure if this one is safe. Don't know how it just popped in AUR and not through official repo? Please take a look and help the noobie out! Ty

What does "just popped" mean in this context?

Mod note: moving to AUR Issues.

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/i7z/ was apparently dropped into the AUR
You can track the changes since last week in https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/log/?h=i7z

Just showed up when I ran yay. I never installed it through AUR and I always do pacman -Syu first. So i was surprised when I saw this package.

Re: [SOLVED] aur/i7z on my update list. Is it safe?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_U … statements
THE AUR IS NEVER "SAFE" - you're supposed to vet the packages you install via it.

That being said and w/ https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/log/?h=i7z
The only real change (for now!) is https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ … a2cf71c311 by https://aur.archlinux.org/account/andreas_baumann and the patch doesn't look like it's capable of being malicious.

Re: [SOLVED] aur/i7z on my update list. Is it safe?

Yes I'm trying to be extra cautious with AUR and I always double check packages when updating, but I don't know how to read code.

Thank you seth! But this one scared me a bit, as I understand if someone uploads malicious orphaned package to AUR and I run the update without noticing it's game over?

Can I somehow limit AUR updates only to packages that I actually installed from AUR?

Sure, stop using AUR helpers that blur the line between supported and unsupported packages.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
