F keys, f1,f2 etc. not working but fn on same keys are

When I try different ways to log the keys in konsole nothing happens when I press the F keys, but if I use the fn keys on the f keys it does register.
What do?

Re: F keys, f1,f2 etc. not working but fn on same keys are

Maybe change a BIOS settings may help.
Configuration -> Hotkey Mode
Enabled: Multimedia keys are default (Fn needed for F1–F12).

Disabled: F1–F12 work without Fn (Legacy mode).

Change the setting to Disabled to use function keys without Fn.

Re: F keys, f1,f2 etc. not working but fn on same keys are

sudo showkey --scancodes

sudo libinput debug-events

Neither show the f keys being pressed, but the fn keys on said f keys do work when active.

The function keys aren't the problem. Normal use of the f keys is.

Do you want the F1–F12 keys to be recognized by libinput and showkey without pressing the Fn key?

Re: F keys, f1,f2 etc. not working but fn on same keys are

I want the f1-f12 keys to work, which they aren't
only the fn functions on them do, and yes I turned on and off fn lock/hold down fn let it go etc.

Different brands handle F1–F12 keys differently. Could you write down the brand and model of your laptop?

Try Disable hotkey mode in Beelink Mini PC SER5 MAX BIOS:
Advanced -> Function Key Behavior / Hotkey Mode
Disabled: The function keys act as standard F1–F12 keys

I cannot for the life of me find this setting.
It is not directly in the advanced page, nor can I find it deeper in

Re: F keys, f1,f2 etc. not working but fn on same keys are

I was thinking maybe it could be something to do with the way multimedia keys are assigned?
Am I able to disable them per device or something?

I’ll try using a standard wired keyboard first.

Another wireless keyboard with fn keys functions fine.

This one connects via bluetooth, perhaps something to do with the bt, again why I think it may be a multimedia key issue.

I think I should point out that it was working for some time, not sure what has been changed for it to stop functioning.

Desktop window manager may remap multimdia keys. GNOME/KDE ? But if other 2.5 RF keyboard works, the keymaping should be fine. How about BIOS update? Bluetooth driver status "systemctl status bluetooth"?

I doont know...

Probably easier to just get a new kb at this point.

If you feel comfortable updating Beelink Mini PC SER5 MAX BIOS from https://dr.bee-link.cn. Read the manual and select the correct version.

Afaik this isn't an integrated device, there's some NUC and an external keyboard, so the firmware of the NUC will unlikely be relevant.

I think I should point out that it was working for some time, not sure what has been changed for it to stop functioning.

Can you test the keyboard on a different host or eg. boot https://grml.org/ on your system to see whether the hardware principally still functions?

Thanks for the help fellow citizens of Earth, having an exam this week I lack the time to test these out for now.
Will report findings by Friday if you still contain the spark to aid.

Fingers crossed for the BIOS update.

What do?

This may or may not work, but you could try 'Fn + Esc' to toggle 'F*'  keys or

Fn is used by lot of keyboards to shift the purpose of a single- or even multiple keys at once
Could be your numpad is also using a similar technique ?

Both my keyboards have functions on the escape key. This is so weird, since it was working, could it be something I've installed?
