Hi, I'm experiencing visual artifacts in Firefox when using extension popups.
For example, with Firefox Containers and uBlock origin. These kinds of artifacts appear in all extension popups.
I'm running Firefox on X11 with Picom as the compositor.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
Edit: do you use picom's glx or the xrender backend?

UHD 630 on the modesetting driver, FullHD on the eDP
There's a nvidia GPU but it gets completely ignored - otherwise nothing looks suspicious in the log.
Is it only firefox? What does it look like w/ the picom xrender backend?
Does it make a difference whether firefox was started while picom was (not) running?
nb. that by default "firefox" will just spawn new windows, you'd have to "firefox --new-instance" to get a new main process.
Offline
Nvidia is deliberately blacklisted via kernel parameters since I don't use it.
It's only happening in Firefox and only in extension popups; other applications show no visual issues.
Switching picom's backend to xrender doesn't make a difference.
It also doesn't matter whether firefox was started before or after picom.

https://i.imgur.com/Jx4t1ZW.png looks a bit like what I get w/o compositor, https://i.imgur.com/EDkZ7Br.png looks ok?
The frame there is ARGB/32bit and apparently unconditionally so (ass·u·me·ing a compositor) - does the glitch only manifest *with* a compositor?
Do you have any ARGB rules in your picom.conf?

Here are the screen recordings with and without the compositor: with, without.
Without the compositor, the situation seems a bit better, but only slightly.
In picom.conf, I only have

Which is relevant here, what if you remove that?
What does the picom.conf look like overall?

# Window type settings
#
# 'WINDOW_TYPE' is one of the 15 window types defined in EWMH standard:
# "unknown", "desktop", "dock", "toolbar", "menu", "utility",
# "splash", "dialog", "normal", "dropdown_menu", "popup_menu",
# "tooltip", "notification", "combo", and "dnd".
#
# Following per window-type options are available: ::
#
# fade, shadow:::
# Controls window-type-specific shadow and fade settings.
#
# opacity:::
# Controls default opacity of the window type.
#
# focus:::
# Controls whether the window of this type is to be always considered focused.
# (By default, all window types except "normal" and "dialog" has this on.)
#
# full-shadow:::
# Controls whether shadow is drawn under the parts of the window that you
# normally won't be able to see. Useful when the window has parts of it
# transparent, and you want shadows in those areas.
#
# clip-shadow-above:::
# Controls wether shadows that would have been drawn above the window should
# be clipped. Useful for dock windows that should have no shadow painted on top.
#
# redir-ignore:::
# Controls whether this type of windows should cause screen to become
# redirected again after been unredirected. If you have unredir-if-possible
# set, and doesn't want certain window to cause unnecessary screen redirection,
# you can set this to `true`.

detect-rounded-corners = true;1. shadows are disabled anyway?
2. what if you don't set frame transparently nor try to detect rounded corners?
3. what if you completely disable blurring?
For reference, try this picom.conf: http://0x0.st/KqIb.txt

Setting frame-opacity to 1.0, disabling rounded corners detection and blurring have no effect.
I've also tried the reference picom.conf, but the issue persists. Disabling rounded corners detection and blurring in that config doesn't help either.

Looking at your video, I can actually replicate this (ftr, the popups are fine - resizing them is not) and this is a completely FF internal problem and unrelated to any compositor.
Flipping "gfx.webrender.scissored-cache-clears.enabled" to false seems to fix (composited) shrinking but breaks growing and uncomposited shrinking.
gfx.webrender.software.opengl or gfx.webrender.unaccelerated-widget.force or gfx.webrender.software don't help either, nor does ui.popup.disable_autohide
This seems to be a straight up FF bug and related to how the popups are resized and redrawn.

In my setup, setting gfx.webrender.software to true seems to fix the problem, at the cost of disabling hardware acceleration.
