Resolution issue with GT 630 via DVI–VGA adapter

Hi everyone,
I’m having trouble with my NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 2GB DDR3 Zotac Synergy Edition when running Hyprland on Arch Linux.

The monitor is connected using a VGA cable through a DVI-to-VGA adapter (the card doesn’t have a native VGA port).

After installing the nvidia-390xx driver, the system is stuck with limited resolution options and I can’t set it to 1366x768 (the monitor’s native resolution).

I also tried adding a custom modeline, but it didn’t fix the issue.

Could this problem be caused by the DVI–VGA adapter?
Has anyone faced a similar issue on Hyprland with this kind of setup? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

in risk for getting blamed by "for some people even 10 bucks is half a months pay": where you from?
no, seriously - unless you're one of those poor souls who had the bad luck been born in afrika or some parts of asia I seriously question how you ended up with hardware capable enough to support this card (that means any motherboard between when pci-e and uefi + cpu, ram and a power supply) + being online - but not able to get some at least somewhat newer gpu (preferable ati/amd) and a monitor with digital inputs
I just can't make up a living having 10+ year old hardware but also blame it as too old

I'm sorry for being poor.

please avoid full-quotes
also: your reply doesn't answer my question (somewhat expected with those kind of topics)

Zotac Synergy Edition when running Hyprland on Arch Linux … After installing the nvidia-390xx driver

390xx doesn't support kms/gbm, you cannot use them / wayland.
Check lspci to be sure, but if this is a GF108 (any GF*) chip that's it.

Your options are nouveau or X11, but r/n you're probably running on the simpledrm device (software emulation) which only supports some vesa modes (and you don't want to use anyway)

@cryptearth, I'm not sure where the question "where you from?" is relevant to the OPs problem.
Also wrt "bad luck been born in afrika" you might want to update your perception of the world.
No, seriously.

@seth
Thanks, this is exactly the answer I needed wink
Even though I now know it won’t work on Wayland, your explanation is still much more helpful and clear compared to that other guy’s reply.

Re: Resolution issue with GT 630 via DVI–VGA adapter

well - it's a direct question with the actual thought of making a generous offer
it's not an offence against OP as a person or thier financial situation - but to be straight as I am:
owning a working computer and internet already elevates you above a certain point - so much that you either have enough to get your hands on something newer yourself or that it wouldn't be much for someone to gift
I once shipped a gpu voluntarily to some stranger across europe and gt a merely "thanks, works" back
jeez - I have a 5-figure sum on my account - shipping some cheap gpu and screen or better yet looking for a deal near OP and just pay for it doesn't hurt me
so, yes, this is a geniune offer

my problem is just with this attitude "I'm poor" - I've been there myself for nearly two years - and yes, even if it hurts putting aside even one buck every day is something everyone can do - and even if it may take months - but with 3 months you up to nearly 100 bucks
I've been thru this and this way got back where I'm now today

as for view of certain regions of the world - c'mon - arte recently reuploaded an older video of where european scrap cars end up in africa
being young and earn very little for a hard days work isn't something I made up in my mind but happens down there right now - and I have my thoughts about how kids end up there
but: the same way, comming back, owning a pc and having access to the internet makes you rich already in these parts of the world and grants several ways to make money with it

so again - spending 50 bucks - feel free - but for being generous I have to know where to send it
and riding this "sorry I'm poor - but actually rich enough to be only with 2010s hardware" at least that's something to share

Re: Resolution issue with GT 630 via DVI–VGA adapter

I’m not well-off to the point of ‘only using a PC from the 2010s.’ My family isn’t well-off either, and as a student I had to save up little by little to buy this computer while carefully managing my expenses so I could still cover other needs.
I’m sorry if that gave you the wrong impression or made you uncomfortable.
