[SOLVED] Audio Devices not being recognised

Since my first install around 2 weeks ago, I haven't been able to use audio, and have finally decided to fix it, but every other post on this forum hasn't been able to solve my problem, so I'm asking for help based on my specific information.

Here is the output from 3 commands that sound important based on other posts I've seen, but haven't been able to solve anything:

eve@lilac: aplay -l
aplay: device_list:279: no soundcards found...

eve@lilac: lspci | grep -i audio
0000:00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake PCH-P High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

eve@lilac: alsamixer
ALSA lib confmisc.c:855:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:5205:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_inum returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:422:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:5205:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1342:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:5205:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:5728:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib control.c:1575:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

Really hoping someone is actually able to help with this because it seems to not be a commonly experienced problem, thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Audio Devices not being recognised

Tried every step in that section but none of the solutions in there worked, I'm still left with the same output.

Forgot to mention the device I'm using is an Acer Aspire 3 laptop.

Hum, another newbie here, but well could you `lsmod | grep snd` to see if the alsa kernel module's part are correctly loaded. from the lil I get to understand it kinda look like the hardware is found on your device but alsa's driver don't seem to have claimed it.

For clarity: did you install the sof-firmware package? This thread features your laptop and the sound worked after that firmware was installed.

Remember to reboot after installing the package smile

Thanks so much, I had installed the sof-firmware package but it didn't occur to me that I would have to restart my laptop.
