[SOLVED] Brave browser - KDE Wallet System popup?

Out of nowhere when trying to launch Brave, this strange window popped up. I don't have a screenshot tool yet, so I'll write the text here:

The KDE Wallet System
KDE has requested to create a new wallet named 'Default keyring'. This is used to store sensitive data in a secure fashion. Please choose the new wallet's type below or click cancel to deny the application's request.
		- Classic, blowfish encrypted file
		- Use GPG encryption, for better protection

This is sudden enough, I wonder if it could be malware. On the other hand, I know Brave has a wallet system, so maybe it has to do with that? I don't want to use it, and I certainly don't want this popup. Should I be concerned? How can I disable this popup?

"... or click cancel ..." - I did this, and Brave opened. After closing and reopening Brave, it popped up again, so it didn't disable it.

Re: [SOLVED] Brave browser - KDE Wallet System popup?

Your browser stores login data like username/passwords and maybe some sensitive information like names, addresses etc. This data is encrypted using a machine-specific key and this key has to be stored somewhere on your system (Windows does this as well). KDE Wallet/KWallet is a storage for such keys and other data, like GPG keys.

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE_Wallet

Re: [SOLVED] Brave browser - KDE Wallet System popup?

you can launch brave with this if you don't store passwords or login to pages, and don't want to install the kde wallet:

brave --store-password=basic

Also check this https://community.brave.app/t/is-passwo … rds/547478
But is more like the same.

But also try this:

Archwiki of KDE_Wallet wrote:

Chrome/Chromium/Opera has built in wallet integration. To enable it, run Chromium with the --password-store=kwallet5 or --password-store=kwallet6 or --password-store=detect argument. To make the change persistent, see Chromium#Making flags persistent. (Setting CHROMIUM_USER_FLAGS will not work.)

Since brave is chromium based

str( @soyg ) == str( @potplant ) btw!

Re: [SOLVED] Brave browser - KDE Wallet System popup?

I also got the popup on GNOME today. It showed when opening VSCodium, Signal Desktop and Fractal. I also now get errors for all my GNOME Online Accounts because they lack the password. I think there might be a regression / bug with one of the packages that I recently updated. These are the last updated packages:
