SOLVED - USB problems during boot

Hi,

When booting my computer it takes a really long time and I get errors like this:

21.437652] usb 1-6: device not accepting address 4, error -71
[   21.440816] usb usb1-port6: attempt power cycle
[   21.529655] usb 1-4.4: new full-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[   21.729620] usb 1-4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=05ac, idProduct=0250, bcdDevice= 1.02
[   21.730036] usb 1-4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[   21.730358] usb 1-4.4: Product: Keychron K2
[   21.730648] usb 1-4.4: Manufacturer: Keychron
[   21.984645] usb 1-6: new high-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[   27.346746] usb 1-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[   43.218724] usb 1-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[   43.501649] usb 1-6: new high-speed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd
[   48.850722] usb 1-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[   64.722743] usb 1-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110

Found a solution here: http://paulphilippov.com/articles/how_t … ress_error posted on another forum. This solved the issue during the first boot after but during the next one same thing happened again. I use the ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi motherboard and dual boot Arch Linux + Windows 11 on separate NVME drives if that could hint to any issue.

Re: SOLVED - USB problems during boot

I had similar issues on my desktop tower Sunday after upgrading. I removed all power sources for several minutes, then boot worked normally. I didn't have anything plugged in to external usb ports before nor after this process (not even keyboard nor mouse). Only motherboard usb items like bluetooth, which I left alone.
Removing all sources of power is easier for a tower than a laptop. If you are on a laptop, you may need to unplug the battery.

Re: SOLVED - USB problems during boot

That's also the approach in the linked blog post.
Other than that remove all external devices (incl. dongles) to see which one actually causes this.

Re: SOLVED - USB problems during boot

Managed to solve it after debugging in both windows and linux. Turned out to be the bluetooth that was the culprit. Found out that Windows had its own fast boot setting so turned that off and reinstalled the bluetooth drivers and now it hasn't shown any issues after a couple of reboots/OS switches.

3rd link below.

Next to that see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Blueto … ot_pairing

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
