Caps Lock ignored by some applications after upgrade to gnome 49

I upgraded to gnome 49.0-1 yesterday and some applications have a weird issue with caps lock.

Specifically they don't recognize/respect turning caps lock on when they are in focus/active, they continue typing in lower case until either:

  • I tap the shift key (alone)

  • I switch to another application and back.

  • Application specific actions that (switching tabs in trilium, switching terminal via keyboard shortcut only in guake)

If caps lock is already on when I switch to the app, it writes normally in capitals, pressing caps lock to switch back to lower case works normally.

Applications affected:
guake from arch repo
triliumnext from aur
godot from arch repo
hexchat
pycharm from aur

Not affected:
Firefox
Thunderbird
Chrome
Blender
kgx (gnome's console)
gimp
evince
gnome-text-editor

I made an issue on gnome's gitlab. It's probably an Xwayland issue.

Same problem here, I upgraded today and now I can't write uppercase normally in some applications. It's really annoying. I've found a temporarily solution to keep caps lock normally

setxkbmap -option caps:shiftlock
