atheros wifi

I can't get my wifi working.  it is an atheros card on my laptop.

I tried following the wiki here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup

But I don't seem to have my device set up or something.

I have used madwifi on this laptop with other linux distributions, and I always use ath0 for the divice.  But I don't see it in dmesg.  I am not sure what to do at this point.

I am not sure how to do that.  Do you mean to run make wlan_wlan0?  I tried that, and it gave me:

what's the output of

lsmod | grep ath

You might also want to set up a network profile for it - they're in /etc/network-profiles/

Copy the template, give it a name, fill it out, and add it to NET_PROFILES in /etc/rc.conf - this is how I set up my madwifi card on my gf's PC and it worked well.

I've been using the MadWiFi drivers for my ThinkPad T43 with Arch flawlessly for over a year, now. I chose to update a few days ago, though, and now I'm suffering from issues as well.

I can `ifconfig ath0 up && iwconfig ath0 essid MyEssid channel 6 mode managed key xxxxxxxxxx` just fine. I can't get an address, though. I've tried absolutely everything. I can see every AP in my neighborhood. I can set up the connection and even occasionally get associated. But DHCP will not work.

I've tried using dhclient, I've reconfigured my AP, I've even manually written the routes and guessed at IP addresses I can use... to no avail. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm positive someone else has to be suffering, too.

Help?

just did an kernel update and can't load ath_pci (although I've updated quite often since 2.6.10)

anyway I just read this on madwifi.org

**important on kernel versions greater than 2.6.10 you need to set pci=routeirq parameter to the kernel otherwise it would not possible to load station (client) otherwise you cannot connect to any wifi network. (24.10.2006)

maybe someone can explain this message?

edit: after this post I just reinstalled 0.9.2-2 and loaded the module w/o problem

i got quiet the same issue, got a IBM thinkpad t41, aetheron 5212 and installed yesterday the arch 0.8 preview version (cause i had issues with kernel panic with my ibm thinkcentre with the other version)
well hwd -id tells me device ought to be athX but it doesn't detect it...

I would try compiling the madwifi driver rather than using the arch version.  I think this was required for some cards in the past, but I am on 64 bit so maybe it was something about that.

Hi,

I notice that I am using madwifi-ng-r1850-20061209, I remember I tried madwifi-ng-r1871-20061229 but there were compile errors (kernel26 2.6.19.2-1 on arch 64).

To get this going I removed the arch madwifi package.  I downloaded the source here:  http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-ng/  and then tar -vxf madwifi-ng... ; cd madwifi-ng... ; make; make install.

Then changed /etc/rc.conf:  ... MODULES=(ath_pci) ... ath0="ath0 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255" ... INTERFACES=(lo ath0)

Also, the usual wireless config changes.  wlan_ath0="ath0 essid ...

Maybe you know about this already, just in case it helps.

Edit: I just tried the newest build (madwifi-ng-r2069-20070203.tar.gz) and it seems to work.

I tried to install the madwifi-ng drivers but its still the same problem... device not found (gonne try the latestversion of the drivers tomorrow, today i used the r1871 20061229...)

I've also an Atheros (AR5006X).
Issue:
