Arch Linux XFCE install gives extremely garbled text

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Arch Linux in VirtualBox. I wanted to try it out after using Linux Mint and Debian for a while. I installed XFCE as my desktop environment and used ext4 for partitioning.

The installation went well, but I ran into some problems at the login screen. Initially, after entering my password, the system would just freeze. I couldn’t even access TTY. After restarting the VM, I was able to log in, but the display was extremely garbled. Many programs and GUIs were broken, like for example, the terminal was completely transparent.

I tried troubleshooting by:

  • Installing missing fonts

  • Installing NetworkManager, setting a DNS, and assigning an IP

Despite this, I still got the same problem. I don’t want to reinstall Arch Linux if I can avoid it. I’m not sure what else to try and would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!
