xfce4 desktop

hi all,

i have a problem with xfce4 desktop and thunar.  it doesn't refresh automatically, ie i have thunar opened for example /home/user and if i save a file to that very same directory, the new file doesn't show up until i hit f5 to refesh.

any tips?

thank you

Re: xfce4 desktop

I think Thunar requires FAM to be enabled for instant refresh.

gamin isn't even used in arch anymore in favour of fam (unfortunately, imho) so just install fam and remove gamin. they both work with thunar and gnome-vfs as those packages are built against fam anyway but gamin provides libfam.

remove gamin without dependencies: pacman -Rd gamin
install fam: pacman -S fam
start the fam daemon: /etc/rc.d/fam start

and (if possible) restart thunar and xfdesktop and so on.

that, including restart, solved the problem for me.
