Hello all,
I've recently switched my from Windows to Arch on my Thinkpad P50 laptop. I tried KDE plasma first, in which the built-in touchpad worked fine. Later I decided to tear it down and switch to hyprland. at which point the touchpad already stopped working, though it's worth noting that installing HyDE [https://github.com/HyDE-Project/HyDE] fixed that problem.
Like with KDE, I didn't want a desktop environment though so I tore down that install as well and tried to fix this issue, without success. Afterwards I realized that HyDE no longer fixes the problem either, meaning the touchpad is completely without function now (but I'm pretty convinced it's not a hardware issue). External USB mice work without issue.
Things I've tried:
- libinput list-devices -- doesn't find the touchpad or the trackpoint device
- xinput list -- same thing
- switched the kernel to LTS
- tried kernel parameters such as "i8042.kbdreset=1" as suggested by the Arch Wiki [https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Touchp … leshooting]
- checked BIOS settings (yes, the touchpad is enabled)
- tried every possible FN-Key combination that could disable the touchpad
- installed the outdated synaptics drivers
- reinstalled Arch multiple times because I'm never sure if I fully clean up the stuff I installed that doesn't end up working (kind of a newbie)
I'm currently once again on a fresh Arch install with just hyprland and HyDE.
Any and all help would be appreaciated as I and a friend of mine who knows more than I do are now both at our wits end.
