I installed Firefox and it looks HORRENDOUS! All of the fonts are small and uncomfortable to read, and the app itself is butt ugly too. How do I fix this?

i'm not sure if this helps but try installing some truetype font like ttf-bitstream-vera or ttf-dejavu. There are lots of truetype fonts ( ttf-* ) so you can use the ones you like.

A screenshot might be helpful too, because "butt ugly" is better understood when it is seen rather than simply described.

Thanks for the screenie... looks like it's mostly due to the fonts issue. Of course, everybody seems to have their own fix that they use. Not sure it'll give you what you want, but I always set FF to use my fonts.

Both forums and wiki cover this.

Do you have a .fonts.conf setup?

May I suggest you check out http://www.mozilla.org/unix/dpi.html
Setting my xserver to correctly infer my screen's dpi drastically improved fonts in all applications (for me anyway). I just measured the dimensions of my screen in millimeters... informed xorg.conf... all better.

i don't see what's wrong wit the font...
you need to set the gtk* theme | install some theme | http://www.archlinux.org/packages/788/

I'd suggest to install packet gtk-qt-engines, it will render gtk (gnome applications e.g. firefox) application using qt. Everything should look ok.
