weird autofs stuff

Hi, I just got Arch all up and running yesterday and also got the autofs running too, thanks to the good wiki entry abnout it (though it doesn't mention anything about fstab in there, which i'm guessing you don't need cd entries in for anymore).  I have had a couple of weird problems that maybe someone can help me with.  Here's a little system breakdown:

Brand new ftp Arch install 2.6.19.2 kernel
Gnome desktop 2.16.3 I think
1 dvd drive and 1 cdrom drive
my drives are on hda and hdb because my hard drives are on the ata 100 slots hde and hdf (old asus kt133 board w/promise chip)

basically, i had first set up the auto.media file with it looking for the drives as hda and hdb.  data disks would mount perfectly and show up on the desktop.  this was causing me not to be able to listen to CDs though or burn them, so I switched it to cdrom and dvd, how it was in the fstab.

now i put in an audio disk and it pops up on the desktop fine and can play it, but data disks do not.  i can go to the media directory with nautilus and click on it and it mounts, but 2 icons show up on the desktop for it, and then both disappear and it kicks me out of the directory.

the gnome mount optionis turned on by the way, but i've tried it without it and same thing.  i also commented out the entries for the cd drives in fstab and that didn't seem to help.  i'm thinking this is more of a gnome issue and how it's seeing the drives, but anyone else have this?

here is is my auto.media file:

cdrom -fstype=iso9660,ro,nodev,nosuid :/dev/cdrom
dvd -fstype=iso9660,ro,nodev,nosuid :/dev/dvd
floppy -fstype=auto,async,nodev,nosuid,umask=000 :/dev/fl
