How can I diagnose a computer and a crash ?

Hello everyone,
For some time now, I've had a game on Steam that randomly crashes my computer.
My question is: how can I diagnose the problem? (For example, when should I restart the session or the computer?)
More broadly, is there a tool that can diagnose my machine and tell me what's wrong (e.g., a module that isn't loaded, defective disk space, etc.)?

There is a journal in which a lot of informations are stored, especially in case of errors. When you start ›journalctl -b -1‹ after reboot, it’ll show the journal from the crashed session with the most recent messages at the bottom.
