Xboard not launching after update

With today's update xboard 4.9.1-4 pulled some extra dependencies (xorg-fonts-misc and xorg-fonts-alias-misc) and now it fails with this error:

Unable to create font set for -*-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*,-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*,-*-*-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*.

I reinstalled it and rebooted, but the problems persists. Is it just me? Not sure if these xorg packages work with wayland...

xboard will not work with wayland - it'll run on xwayland (a nested X11 server)

helvetica is eg. in https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/an … ts-100dpi/ - no idea, but I suspect xorg-fonts-misc is not a sufficient dependency here.

My $XDG_SESSION_TYPE says "wayland"... After downgrading xboard to 4.9.1-3 it works fine as before. I wonder if the problem is that 4.9.1-4 has this change: "use Xaw front-end (removes gtk2 dependency)" ?

Yes, likely - as in the linked commit. Did you try to install the xorg fonts package?
