Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Thank you maintainers for dealing with this stuff. Must be a PITA and a challenge at the same time. Bon courage.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

I had to change mirror in mirrorlist because apparently not all the mirrors are syncing.

It looks like AUR is running in the right IP range, but actually located somewhere else.

Unlikely that that's related.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Dear arch maintainers. First a general thank you.

I read an exchange in a mailing list re. DDOS protection. Should you choose to change things, whatever you do, please do not introduce a system that will make users feel they might as well be using Microsoft due to tracking and/or profiling. I found the suggestion to use cloudflare off-putting. A free service from them will probably be worse and I don't think the implications of the jurisdiction need clarification.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Lol I can't update from the aur atm because the ddos protection blocks me for the crime of browsing with a vpn. I wish people didnt ddos thing or there was a better system that didn't involve locking out privacy tools.

Jhackler: Which error are you seeing and which VPN provider are you using? It would be good to get more details in order to figure out what the issue is smile

on the website its This site can’t be reached
aur.archlinux.org unexpectedly closed the connection.

In the terminal its something Else but I tried 5 different pia regions, it immediately refused connection. I am using the streaming optimized server to udpdate atm which works but those servers are much slower or allow less parallel connections since there purpose is to not get blocked by video streaming sites.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

I'm having problems connecting to aur.archlinux.org as well, and I'm not using a VPN. I'm on standard Spectrum cable internet in the US. This seems to have started in the last few days or so.

$ curl https://aur.archlinux.org
curl: (35) TLS connect error: error:0A000126:SSL routines::unexpected eof while reading

I'm happy to share my IP in private if it would help.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Hm, this is rather odd, I don't see any issues (neither via ipv6 nor ipv4) but we should definitely investigate what the problem is caused by for you both ...

Could you write some details and maybe the output of 'curl -vIX GET https://aur.archlinux.org' to accountsupport@archlinux.org? Additionally you could also check whether the outputs differ when you pass the -4 / -6 flag.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Also

curl -vL https://aur.archlinux.org > /dev/null
openssl s_client --connect aur.archlinux.org:443
date # maybe it's because DST??

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Sent the email to accountsupport. I also should note that this is happening to multiple devices on my network, Arch, Windows, and Android so it doesn't appear to be a localized issue.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Also experiencing this problem from an ARIN source IP.

Connectivity to 2604:cac0:a104:d::2 and 209.126.35.78 from an ARIN source IP both yield:

* TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS alert, decode error (562):
* TLS connect error: error:0A000126:SSL routines::unexpected eof while reading

However, connectivity from APNIC source IPs (tested multiple, both v4 and v6 to the same destination addresses) all succeed in the TLS handshake.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Ran in to this as well. VPN to another location (i.e. Colorado) seems to fix the connection.

Maybe?

Sent details to accountsupport@archlinux.org.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

If it helps for additional information, here in Latin America it seems we don't have the problem. I can check the AUR fine today and also all this week.

Does that sound familiar to anyone else?
Maybe somebody introduced some overhead somewhere … what if you drastically lower the MTU to 1280?

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

Is the DDoS still happening? I'm in Canada, not using any VPN, and the AUR is still unresponsive from time to time.

No the service should be reachable as normal, which problems are you seeing?

Edit: Nevermind, we got a DDoS going again.

Re: [arch-announce] Recent services outages

I made this to say, in the us for me at least. I'm not able to reach the aur currently. I thought at first it was my vpn or something. But changing the location had no effect. Neither did trying to reach it without the vpn. I'm not sure if it's just me somehow or if this is happening to others. I'm not seeing anyone else mention it though. I can't update any aur packages currently, and I can't reach the aur link in any browser.
