failed to install the Linux kernel package

Read the RTFM .. several times.
Went through the previous stages without any apparent error.
Then attempt to install the kernel I get package integrity check done but on the next screen failed to install the Linux kernel package
There's nothing in /mnt/var/log/messages or ../syslog or ../dmesg.
VC5 just shows info about (CD) sources.
How do I dig out what is wrong?

Re: failed to install the Linux kernel package

Are you doing a cd or ftp install?
If cd, which one? Tried to check the md5sum? Burn another cd?
If ftp, maybe there was something wrong (mirror syncing etc.) just when you tried?
I never encountered that problem, so I'm just guessing.

The full CD version.
How do I check the md5sum?
Isn't there a check CD on the opening menu?

I rather think I have written to the HDD but have I trashed it altogether? sad
