Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Hello,
I am using the DHCPCD package as my network manager to connect to the internet. Recently, I've been losing connection to the internet periodically. It gets really frustrating when it happens while streaming or downloading and it makes my download fail. I use Ethernet and only Ethernet. I will provide as much information up front as I can, but I can provide more information if it is needed. Here's what I have for you:

  • I am running regular Arch Linux with a custom kernel (6.17.3-273-tkg-bore).

  • DHCPCD is my ONLY network related package that I have installed and running (no systemd-networkd)

  • Here is the output of ip link

  • dhcpcd.conf is default

  • /etc/resolv.conf is managed and generated directly by dhcpcd

I most of these issues started after installing and using openvpn to use ProtonVPN. I've since uninstalled openvpn, but connection issues still occur.

Here is a list of things I've done myself so far to fix the issue:

  • Used openresolv

  • Full, clean uninstall of DHCPCD and reinstalled it with complete vanilla settings

  • Checked the Ethernet connection physically at both ends and reseated them

Perhaps I should ditch DHCPCD altogether and use systemd-networkd.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Did you try the vanilla or LTS kernel behavior?

* docker
* cable
* cable
* cable
* conflicting services, still? Please post the output of

find /etc/systemd -type l -exec test -f {} \; -print | awk -F'/' '{ printf ("%-40s | %s\n", $(NF-0), $(NF-1)) }' | sort -f

* docker
* cable
* docker
* power saving ? "pcie_aspm=off", https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters
* cable

Perhaps I should ditch DHCPCD altogether and use systemd-networkd.

If enp12s0 drops to "NO-CARRIER", no network service in the world is gonna help you with that.
The journal segment is complete and not filtered for dhcpcd?

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I will use the default Arch Linux kernel when I get back home to see if I get more network stability (I will disable power saving via kernel param after using the default kernel for a few hours first to isolate the variables). At this time, I can only reply quickly before having to go. Docker is usually not on, I just happened to have it on during the time I was getting my system info. I just installed Docker yesterday and this issue has been happening for the past week, so I can rule out docker being the reason for this. Here is what ip link usually looks like for me.

ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp12s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 60:cf:84:7a:18:2c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    altname enx60cf847a182c

If it is my cable then that will be unfortunate as I've lifted up my carpets in my home to run Ethernet underneath them so that it would be out of sight. Still, I do not know if Ethernet cables just suddenly become unusable and the timing of these issues starting the same time I started using a VPN seems, to me, to be the most likely issue.

Here is the output of the command you asked me to run:

backup.timer | timers.target.wants

To answer your last question: I did run journalctl -u dhcpcd so it is filtered.

Much appreciated.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Here is what ip link usually looks like for me.

Also when the carrier is lost?

I did run journalctl -u dhcpcd so it is filtered.

Please post the unfiltered journal - I'll blame the cable until proven wrong, but the NICs firmware might be crashing or something like that.

If it is my cable then that will be unfortunate as I've lifted up my carpets in my home to run Ethernet underneath them

To test whether it's the cable, a temporary overhead line might be acceptable wink

I do not know if Ethernet cables just suddenly become unusable

Sweet summer child…

the timing of these issues starting the same time I started using a VPN seems, to me, to be the most likely issue.

VPN or ufw.service are certainly capable of "breaking the internet", but would rather not result in carrier losses on the underlying HW NIC - I assume you also ran kernel updates (a kernel module bug and/or inducing a firmware issue would be more likely - that is after ruling out the cable…)

Edit: because of your carpet construction - is there some arming (looks like a flat plastic roof)? You're NOT walking on the cable, are you?

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Hi Ezra,

NO_CARRIER is the system's way of saying "I'm not plugged in to another machine". This is determined by the kernel and its network drivers, so it's very difficult to imagine how this has anything to do with the DHCP client on the machine (or openvpn).

As Seth said, the cable is a prime suspect here, as is your custom kernel. Power saving is also a good thing to check. It could be some kind of driver bug.

It looks like you posted the output of

journalctl -u dhcpcd

. Could you pastebin the full dmesg logs? Or post the output of

sudo dmesg | grep enp12s0

?

It's worth keeping in mind that the cause could be on the other end of the connection as well. If the device you have the other end of your ethernet cable plugged into is rebooting or having intermittent hardware failures, it might be that there isn't anything wrong with your Arch system at all. Testing out another machine on the "Arch" end of the cable could be a good way to test this, if that's a possibility for you. It would also be interesting to see kernel/event logs from the device at the other end of the cable. I'm not sure what's relevant since I don't know what's plugged in to the other end.

Thanks,
Andrew

I appreciate the quick responses from the both of you. I will answer one at a time starting with Seth. I waited until I had another timeout to double check, but yes: ip link is the same as in my reply verbatim when I lose connection. Here is my unfiltered journalctl

The connection lost happened around 18:05, though the timeout was a lot more brief this time and I see that there are no logs from DHCPCD service and I also saw nothing saying carrier lost this time. I was running an online game because it seems to only happen when I'm doing activities that use up a lot of bandwidth such as downloading or gaming (or perhaps it's just more noticeable while I'm actually using the internet). I closed my game right after I got connection back. While I do believe you when you say it's a cable issue. I do not have a spare Ethernet cable at the moment. I will have to go with Andrew's suggestion of plugging in another device with the same cable to see if I get issues until I do get one. When I did use my VPN, my resolv.conf was always blank once I turned the VPN off. Up until I reinstalled DHCPCD, it was always blank and wouldn't update by itself so I had to manually add in DNS servers into it. It's probably why I believed it was VPN issues causing network instability. I tried running out-of-tree drivers for my Ethernet, but I switched back after about 2 days of it getting worse (go figure). I do not use floor cord covers. I have flat cables at the very edge of my carpets lying flat against the walls along its baseboard. I peeled my carpets back and they're sitting snug in between the two and are out of way of any foot traffic.

While typing this out, I did get another interruption. Here are additional logs. I will now be switcing over to the default Linux kernel and I'll be testing it out for about an hour to see if I get network interruptions then. I will also use the kernel params after testing out the regular kernel.

My router is plugged into an outlet near my kitchen, I wouldn't know how to check the logs for my Verizon router. If someone were to turn on any appliance, it would cause a brownout (e.g. brewing coffee). I've bought a UPS to plug my router into so that any drops in voltage does not cause my router to restart. I know it's not my router restarting that's causing the issue, per se, because my router restarting takes minutes rather than just a few seconds. Of course, my router could be a source of issues so I'll keep an eye on that next time. Who knows, maybe I'll sit by it next time I eat and watch for if it shuts off, but it hasn't happened since buying the UPS. I do try to check my other devices to see if they're affected by the internet timing out, but my phone never switches to cellular data from wifi like during a normal router reboot cycle. I will test another device using the same ethernet cable after testing default Linux and after testing the kernel param. Thanks!

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I just tested the default Linux kernel. Still happens. I notice it happens very frequently when I'm doing tasks that are very demanding in regards to bandwidth. When I am using my PC like normal, I get no alerts whatsoever that my internet has disconnected. When I play games or call or stream movies, it can get pretty severe. I've just had it happen to me in quick succession, my internet was completely unusable while Counter Strike was running. I must've lost connection to the internet like 5 times within 10 minutes. When the game is closed or I'm disconnected from the server, I get few alerts from my PC telling me I've lost connection (once an hour or so). My Ethernet cable is rather new (bought it this April). I am now going to test with the kernel params and I'll get back to you guys on that. I'll edit this post with my experience below after using it for a bit.

Edit 1: I finally got a network DC after doing the new kernel params:

Like I said, it seems to only happen when I'm doing things that take up a lot of bandwidth or happen more frequently. Now to try a laptop disconnected from wireless internet and connected only through Ethernet... I'll get back to you when I finish this.

Edit 2: I tried booting into Windows on the same PC (I plugged in an SSD with Windows installed and booted into it) and I had no network interruptions for about an hour of using it. Perhaps the carrier being lost is not the issue, but a symptom. It was only an hour, so maybe it would've come eventually, but it's Windows and I would like to not spend more time on it than I would have to (lol).

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Being unable to replicate the issue on the same hardware running windows is an interesting data point. Can you increase the logging verbosity of the r8169 driver with dynamic_debug?

I don't have a ton of great ideas about what the issue is, but to throw some ideas out there:

What link speed are you expecting to be negotiated? It might be worth verifying that's being achieved with ethtool. It could even be worth setting your NIC to only advertise a conservative speed, and seeing if the issues continue.

It seems like there may be an out-of-tree driver from the vendor covering similar hardware in the AUR, named r8168? That could be interesting to try out.

It could also be interesting to try a live image with a different distro that uses an older Linux kernel, like Debian.

I am unsure how to do the first thing you asked me regarding logging the r8169 driver. I am expecting, and receiving 5000Mb/s according to ethtool ran as root:

Just to double check, are you sure I should use r8168? Maybe I'm naive, but I thought I would have to use the r8126 drivers from the AUR:

0c:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8126 5GbE Controller [10ec:8126] (rev 01)

I will definitely try Debian on a live USB, but I'll have to update you on that later. Seriously considering reinstalling Arch Linux right now. All my personal files are stored on my HDD and not my SSD, and I have a backup of all my config files, important etc files and a list of packages from both pacman and AUR for a quick reinstall. I am currently installing Debian 13 on my USB (it's even a red USB too).

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

The first journal has no carrier losses, so the ip a during that time is irrelevant (regardless of what might have caused the perceived network failure)
The second has a carrier loss/gain w/o any explaining context (no driver, firmware crashes etc) - same goes for the journal segment in #8

Your chip isn't covered by the r8168 driver (currently runs on the in-tree r8169)

Now to try a laptop disconnected from wireless internet and connected only through Ethernet...

Errr… this has been about the wired connection all along - the failing chip is not wireless.
What connection did you actually use on windows?

If you disable autonegotiation and set the speed to 2500, to you also lose the carrier?

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Hello,
I will post the full dmesg from my live Debian USB and Arch as pastebins. Both Debian and Arch had network interruptions, however Debian seemed to handle it a lot better by not timing me out of my tasks and I was able to resume much smoother. Here is Debian 13 and Arch. The internet disconnecting is reproducible if I do any task that uses up a lot of bandwidth. I was downloading 10GB files from an internet test website and can repeatedly cause my internet to drop within a half hour or so of downloading. Here is a snippet from the Arch PC's logs:

[ 24.178525] r8169 0000:0c:00.0 enp12s0: Link is Down
[ 29.599450] r8169 0000:0c:00.0 enp12s0: Link is Up - 5Gbps/Full - flow control off
[ 2238.054917] r8169 0000:0c:00.0 enp12s0: Link is Down
[ 2242.259713] r8169 0000:0c:00.0 enp12s0: Link is Up - 5Gbps/Full - flow control off

I had my computer on for about 40 minutes doing light tasks and doing tasks that are mostly offline such as writing documents in LibreOffice. When I started the download, I got my first interruption.

For seth,
The reason I tested a laptop was to see if the issue was a router issue. I was under the impression that the router losing power temporarily could possibly result in me losing the carrier. Even if it isn't likely, I am testing for all variables possible. I have tested my cable and chip by using the same computer with a different OS (Windows) and it was stable. I only use wired connection on my PC, so even in my dual boot I have wireless connections disabled in settings. I am about to go back to Windows to double check everything and run tests again to see if my network drops after I edit this message and tell you how it goes when I lower the link speed and disable autonegotiation.

Edit: For some reason, I cannot reduce my network speed AND have autoneg off at the same time:

[junebug@aphelion ~]$ sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 autoneg off speed 2500
netlink error: link settings update failed
netlink error: Invalid argument

Omitting "autoneg off" works and my speed is 2500Mb/s according to ethtool.

Edit 2: No network interruptions on 2500Mb/s after 40 minutes of testing.

Here is the pastebin with the dmesg log: https://pastebin.com/BBa8PXSm. r8169 link was down only at the beginning near the startup and 200 seconds into running my system when I changed the speed from 5000 to 2500Mb/s. I copied the logs at 2 hours into me doing random tasks that would normally trigger the internet to cut out like gaming, downloading large files and streaming movies.

At 4 hours of use, I have only seen my carrier get lost once compared to it happening every few minutes. It's almost completely stable. This might just be my cable then. The only reason I was/still am so convinced it could be a software issue is because the timing of my internet becoming unstable the moment I used OpenVPN once i.e. my PC used 5Gbps Ethernet just fine up until last week when I used OpenVPN + ProtonVPN and I seemed to be getting issues ever since I disconnected the VPN. Truthfully, I did not know how to use OpenVPN properly and my configs were all a bunch of configs from the Arch wiki merged together with whatever ProtonVPN gave me. It is a shame that I was able to use 5Gb Ethernet until I could not so suddenly.

Thanks,
Ezra

Yes.

Can you

sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 autoneg off
sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 speed 2500

What could be the issue causing my internet to drop out at 5Gbps?

Possibly the carpet lol

Edit: tbf, this might be (considered) a "bug" in the driver not being lenient enough™ towards inevitable signal fluctuations with the connection.

The dmesg's don't actually report any carrier losses, as for the userspace behavior that will largely hinge on the network configuration (service) - does debian also use dhcpcd? ufw?
Maybe debian does and you can https://man.archlinux.org/man/dhcpcd.8#K

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

My speed is already at 2500 at this point:

[junebug@aphelion ~]$ sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 autoneg off
[sudo] password for junebug:
netlink error: link settings update failed
netlink error: Invalid argument
[junebug@aphelion ~]$ sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 speed 2500
[junebug@aphelion ~]$ sudo ethtool -s enp12s0 autoneg off
netlink error: link settings update failed
netlink error: Invalid argument
[junebug@aphelion ~]$

It will not allow me to turn autonegotiation off while my speed is above 100Mbps. I can turn it off at and below 100Mbps, so I can test it out at 100Mbps autoneg off if you would like me to. I have tested the normal Linux kernel and I actually did use that exact out-of-tree driver, but no improvement with either. I blacklisted the r8169 driver to ensure that r8126 was the one being used as well (I removed the blacklist along with the r8126 kernel after I was done testing, don't worry!).

Debian live uses network-manager and ufw. I was using the "Link is Down" and "Link is Up" logs in my dmesg to see when my internet cuts out because that always lined up with my carrier being lost on Arch. It happens very frequently near the end of the dmesg logs on Debian.

My new Ethernet cable arrives tomorrow evening. Hopefully the end of my problems are right around the corner. I'll keep you guys posted when I do get the cable.

Thank you,
Ezra

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

If it ends up being the cable and you plan on more carpet-work, make sure to not put the cable naked under the carpet where people a walking.
Either keep it close to the walls or use an under-carpet wire-way.
Humans weigh a lot wink

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I have flat cables at the very edge of my carpets lying flat against the walls along its baseboard. I peeled my carpets back and they're sitting snug in between the two and are out of way of any foot traffic.

They are up against my walls running along its baseboard, it's just that I had to lift my carpet to slip my cable alongside the wall down there out of sight. It's a carpet, not a rug, so I can't even have the carpet going where people would be walking without lifting up the entirety of the carpet off the ground first. I just lifted up the edge running along the wall, so no one would be stepping on it unless they were doing mindfully going out of their way to.

New cable arrived. First thing I did was unboxed it and immediately plugged it in. I will say it is definitely more stable, especially at the full 5Gbps speed, but I've experienced 2 timeouts. I rebooted my PC and my internet cut out again within 30 minutes of starting my system. journalctl snippet. I was really hoping this would work. Maybe it's my NIC or something, I have no idea. I found that I could get autonegotiation to turn on if I set my speed to 1000Mbps. It was horrible, I think I must've lost connection every 30 seconds and as soon as I'd get reconnected I would lose it again almost immediately. I've turned autonegotiation back only a few minutes into using it. I can send any logs that you request or any information about my system that's needed to help.

Ezra

Edit: Idk if autoneg is the problem or if it's 1000Mbps, but I've had some bad disconnections with 1000Mbps regardless of whether or not autoneg is on or off. It seems like these settings have been my most stable and I've had the least issues with these:

3 hours of use and only one internet disconnect at 2 hours and 22 minutes in. I suspect it's probably the driver not working well with my MOBO's NIC. That's my hypothesis, at least. I have no other explanation as to why it's unstable at 5Gbps and 1Gbps, but not 2.5Gbps which is in between the two. My PC and all of its components (except for the case which I reused) is 10 months old, my router was traded in for the 10Gbps model 6 months ago, this cable arrived today, I only experience internet outages during heavy loads. The first time I tried using the out-of-tree driver, I did not notice any improvement and I still had bad outages. I've since upgraded my kernel (barely... 6.17.3 -> 6.17.5) and I've only tested the out-of-tree driver once before updating. Maybe I'll give it another shot and see how it goes. If it truly is a driver issue then I might just have to stick with reduced speeds until a proper driver for my chip is released or an existing driver gets updated.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Sorry, missed the part about the house remodeling.

3 hours of use and only one internet disconnect at 2 hours and 22 minutes in.

For those disconnects please make sure they're always carrier losses

Maybe it's my NIC or something

Do you have other 5Gbps connections to the same switch?

How does the overall system behave at default settings if you use dhcpcd -K ?

What type of cable are you using? Cat5? Cat5e? Cat6? How long is the cable? Cat5e should be good for 100m at the speeds we're discussing here.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

It is no wonder you are missing the information, it isn't your fault but it's mine. I sometimes go back to edit my replies and I've noticed that I've been editing them while you're posting your own response! The timing is just unfortunate; my apologies. Anyway, I did not add anything too important to my last reply except that I suspect it to be a driver issue, ultimately. I'll try to keep this part short and sweet as all my other responses have been pretty lengthy, and I apologize again for that.

  • Yes, I see the carrier was lost and acquired just as every other time (before I did dhcpcd -k)

  • All other PCs in my house are wireless. I have a Philips hue hub plugged into a standard Ethernet port on the router so it will be at most 1Gbps. My router only has one port for 10Gbps speeds and all the rest are standard.

  • Things started off smoothly after using dhcpcd -k and re-enabling dhcpcd. I did it about 3 times before testing as the Arch wiki said I may have to do this multiple times. I would get very quick dropouts, but only for 3 seconds versus 20. The dropouts got more frequent and longer as time went on until the last outage I got which completely disconnected me from the internet altogether. This was all on 5000Mbps. dmesg told me the Link was down, but journalctl had no logs from dhcpcd during the outages and I did not lose my carrier during any outages. During the last outage, it told me that I was connected to the internet, but I was unable to ping any site in terminal or get a response back at all. No logs from journalctl or dmesg except for the usual Link is down/Link is up, but that was a few minutes ago and I still couldn't ping any site despite it saying Link was back up. I used ethtool to change speeds to 2500 and I'm finally able to access the forums.

  • All my hardware is basically brand new. Nothing I am using, from the cable to the PC, is more than 10 months old. I've been using Cat6a this whole time.

I can provide any additional information you may need.

It's pretty stable on 2500Mbps after doing dhcpcd -k a few times. No more carrier lost, but the occasional Link is down dmesg is there so I still lose connection every once in a while. Still no idea what's going on, and I wish I could go back to 5Gbps like before, or at the very least not get interruptions during my internet under heavy load. Seems like it happens more frequently the longer I'm doing tasks on the internet.

Ezra

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I did not lose my carrier during any outages

You mis-spelled "dhcpcd did not report the carrier loss because of the -K switch" wink

I'm not sure whether that's the cause of the collapse, but you could try to increase the tcp cache, https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-tcp-tuning/ (you can transiently write those values w/ sysctl, no need to edit the config and reboot all the time)

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I tried these values

# Values might seem high (2 GB, 4GB, 8GB), but I have 64GB RAM in my system. I believe these values are good enough
sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_mem="524288 1048576 2097152"

and it seems to have improved things a little bit if at all. Reducing my speeds to 2.5Gbps has had the most impact on my stability so far. 2.5Gbps seems to be the only speed that is usable... At 1Gbps I can barely connect to the internet. I can now see carrier lost in my journalctl entries again.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I can now see carrier lost in my journalctl entries again.

You removed the -K ?

Any chance you can try a different host against the switch?

Edit 2: I tried booting into Windows on the same PC (I plugged in an SSD with Windows installed and booted into it) and I had no network interruptions for about an hour of using it. Perhaps the carrier being lost is not the issue, but a symptom. It was only an hour, so maybe it would've come eventually, but it's Windows and I would like to not spend more time on it than I would have to (lol).

Just as a sanity precaution, 3rd link below.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

Edit: also https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/753 … -10-a.html - maybe windows is running at 2.5Gbit/s?

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

I haven't tried a different host machine yet. I have been testing out different kernel versions (6.17.7, 6.16.9, 6.12.55). I figured that the timing of my issues starting has coincided with the release of Linux 6.17. I am now using custom drivers from this github repository: https://github.com/openwrt/rtl8126. According to Realtek's official website, their r8126 drivers only have support up to 6.15 which is why I tried the Linux LTS kernel. I get better support on 5Gbps with this driver, but after about an hour to 90 minutes my internet becomes unusable until I reduce the speed back down to 2.5Gbps. I haven't tested to see how long 2.5Gbps lasts, but it's usually the same no matter what I change. 2.5Gbps lasts longer than 5Gbps, but no matter what I do it will always reach a point where my internet becomes completely unusable after some time. My carrier will be lost and acquired within quick succession over and over again within seconds and I'm basically locked out from using the internet. I'm noticing that when I use the custom drivers on 5Gbps and I eventually get the network disconnections, my Ethernet status now says (NO IP) rather than Disconnected like how it did previously.

Fast start has always been disabled on my machine since I installed Windows on my spare drive and I checked that Windows is indeed using the full 5Gbps speeds.

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Just to be sure - you were running "dhcpcd -K" not "dhcpcd -k" (nb. the capital "K") for those tests?

I figured that the timing of my issues starting has coincided with the release of Linux 6.17

So how does the LTS kernel behave w/o any OOT modules (https://github.com/openwrt/rtl8126)?

Re: Carrier lost constantly on Ethernet (DHCPCD)

Whoops. I've been using lowercase k the entire time. I look up every command in man pages or on the Arch wiki before I put anything into the terminal and so I found this while looking up "dhcpcd -K" which made me use lowercase... I'm on my regular, daily driver kernel (the tkg one) and I'm going to be using this with the -K flag this time.

I've tested kernels 6.12.55, 6.16.9, 6.17.3 and 6.17.7 with and without the OOT driver (except 6.16.9 which I only used default drivers). The differences between every kernel is inconceivable, they all behave so similarly or identically. The only thing that changes how it behaves would be if I was using the OOT driver or not. Without it, I disconnect from the internet after a certain amount of time under load. When I use the custom driver, I instead lose my IP address when my NIC is under load. The behavior with different drivers are the same in these regards: both will take about 30 minutes to an hour of usage before they start to experience issues and both tend to last longer at 2.5Gbps before eventually failing. I noticed that if I reboot my PC when I start experiencing issues, I will still get connection issues to the same severity when I boot into the system again. I have to turn off my PC and wait some time before starting my PC again to reach baseline. Perhaps my NIC is overheating or something.
