USB speakers sleep when idle, and pause playback as they turn on

I got some KEF LSX II LT speakers connected to my desktop over USB.
They sound good, but when there's no music playback for 30 minutes, they go into an idle state.
That's fine, but then when I turn on the machine, they stay asleep until they get an audio signal. For the first 2-3 seconds there's no sound (while speakers turn on), and then once they're on, the music/video pauses (as though the audio source has been switched).

I'm ok with the speakers being powered down, and am ok with no sound for 3 seconds, but it's really annoying that the video/song I'm playing just pauses after 3 seconds, and I have to manually play it again.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the links.
But my speakers power down automatically in hardware. I don't need to try to work around that. I just want it so that the first time I play music when the speakers are idle, it doesn't pause while while they turn on.
