icu update breaks thunderbird

The latest icu update in testing breaks thunderbird, and trying to avoid the icu update breaks a bunch of stuff (including pacman).

I was able to recover my system by arch-chroot and removing thunderbird with pacman --root, and then updating (had to fix the repos in the live boot to include testing). thunderbird-bin in AUR works, even if it is a minor version behind official.

There was a TB update at the same time, but it still conflicts. So, is there a way to automatically check when thunderbird from the official repos is updated when it isn't installed?

It's no longer a major issue. thunderbird-bin is working, but I'd rather have the official release than an AUR release installed.

TIA

And of course don't do a partial update.

Re: icu update breaks thunderbird

Ahh, I missed that. And of course, I haven't done a partial update. I made sure that I could complete the update, just had to jump through a couple of hoops to get there.

Bookmarked the bug report, and I'll check from time to time for a fix smile

Thank you.

This is the partial update I was talking about. Completely normal for avoiding an update to make a lot of things not work.

Re: icu update breaks thunderbird

Ahh, yes. I never do partials, it was a temporary measure to get the update done. Never realised it was going to break so much stuff, but all good now. If I'd known it was going to break pacman I'd have saved myself a lot of trouble by just uninstalling TB first (which is the approach I took on my second PC).
