I'm using i3 on X11 with a ryzen integrated gpu + nvidia dedicated gpu (nvidia-open-lts) + linux-lts kernel. When I launch steam, everything works fine, but after i change my workspace and later come back to the one with steam open, steam doesn't update its window. You can click on different stuff and also my cursor changes when I hover over stuff, but nothing changes visually. I have to close the window and reopen it to see normally again. Normal linux kernel doesn't change anything.

Please try to restart the i3 first, the default keybind is "$mod+Shift+r" (where $mod is your configured mod key), if it does not work, please start steam in a terminal and send the logs here.

Restarting i3 also fixes the window, but why does it happen like that?

Nah, it doesn't change anything.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue. On two pc with steam and i3wm. I think the problem is caused by i3 and should probably ask there.
