Broken "how"?
According to the package description, harfbuzz is an optional dependency for freetype for "Improved autohinting", so it might cause different autohinting behavior by design?
Also what does the dpi have to do with it?

Wrong subpixel layout?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Font_c … xel_layout
Do you still have custom rules in /etc/fonts/conf.d or ~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d ?

custom? a bunch of symlinks. no combo actually removes this halo(
i've tried em all. now i remember why i had that patch in the 1st place.
10-hinting-full.conf | 10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf | 11-lcdfilter-default.conf |10-yes-antialias.confai says the bytecode interpereter has been changed
& that old rendering is no longer available. so how to fix it?
seems i have to resort to downgrading that harfbuzz for now(
