Display issues

My display on my Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen 6th keeps flashing all the time when I am using Arch Linux. I have troubleshot this by enabling different kernel modules dealing with the i915 driver which I thought was the issue. I even tested nomodeset and the flashing still remained. I believe this is an Arch Linux issue, but it may be a general linux issue because I haven't tested any other distros. I did test it on windows and there was absolutely 0 flashing. I also reinstalled Arch because the windows installation nuked my Arch installation, and it is still happening now. This also happens in the TTY and on Xorg (I daily drive hyprland). Does anyone know anything about this? This could be a laptop issue and I apologize if it is.

Re: Display issues

Welcome to the forums.

For all you wrote, you did not tell us much.   First and foremost, what i915 driver are you talking about.  In general, Intel graphics should never need the i915 driver for any hardware built this decade.  Intel graphics are extremely well supported by the kernel and user space tools.

What is the output of lspci -nn    ?
You mentioned Xorg, and in the same sentence said you use Hyprland as your daily driver.   Hyprland does not run under Xorg, so I am confused.

I use Intel Iris graphics on this Asus Vivobook on Hyprland as my daily driver and it is rock solid.  It is also rock solid with Gnome on Wayland, Sway (Wayland) and i3 (Xorg).

As we debug this, please pick an environment (Hyprland/Wayland/Arch Linux / no i915 driver) and concentrate on it.

I don't think they're talking about xf86-video-intel (which should not be installed) but "modinfo i915"
@apricityamazing, ho did you go about applying those parameters?
Please boot the multi-user.target (2nd link below) w/ "nomodeset" and post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

the windows installation nuked my Arch installation

3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

The most likely causes are https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … flickering and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … Intel_CPUs (system underpowered) but let's see what's going on first.
