Is there nobody who is interested in data visualisation?
The missig dep is xml-config. it should be in libxml-devel.
I installed the libxml packet but this didn't fix it. What is the difference between libxml (arch-packet) and libxml-devel (not a arch packet)?
what have I to do to get libxml-devel on my machine?

not sure about it, but as far i know xml-config was part of libxml 1.x ... but since libxml2 is out there is also no xml-config --- anyone has more info about where went xml-config? or am i wrong?
sure, i'm interested in data visualisation ... and i tried to make the VTK work under arch, but had no success :-( ... good luck to you making it build ... i will try helping if i find some time, but this semester i have not that much free time
The impossible missions are the only ones which succeed.

one additional note:
04-Dec-2001 08:11 was the last touch to the code of scigraphica ... not really up-to-date :-(

vtk needs patching a lot of paths with sed in the version i tried about a year ago ... now it is maybe better ... you must specify or change the paths --- my problem was that i had a 266mhz-machine and compiling took over 16hours and then breaked somewhere :-(

I'd like to have a go at using scigraphica as well, but have the same problem you mentioned with missing xml-config - does anyone have any ideas on this one? Thanks

I succeeded in building scigraphica.
I still need to clean the PKGBUILD and test it to see if it's OK. It will be post early next week.

I am but, once I got over the fact that it has no GUI, I found Gnuplot to be much more suited for my needs. It's just like with the command line -- once you got used to it and recognize its power and flexibility you don't want to use a graphical file manager anymore. Also Scigraphica seems to be unmaintained, the latest release is three years old.

Thanks for the build snowman - I tried it and it completed, but now every time I run scigraphica I get an error in a dialog box saying "segmentation fault", and when I click the ok button, it crashes, much to my confusion :?

If I understand correctly, you are using the scigraphica from my repo. Is that correct?
I didn't had that problem. I will check that tonight.

I have uploaded a new package for scigraphica. I installed it from my repo and it works on my system. Try it and tell me if it works.

Hello Snowman,
I tried the package from your repo - it also seems to install without any hitches, but then gives the same error message (segmentation error) before disappearing. Do you have any suggestions for troubleshooting it?
Thanks,

Try to build it from trhe PKGBUILD:

Just tried it - it completed, but gives the segmentation fault when I try to run it, along with the following messages:
** WARNING **: ERROR: Cannot write to file: /var/abs/local/scigraphica/pkg/usr/bin/#rescue#untitled.sg
** WARNING **: ERROR: Cannot write to file: #rescue#untitled.sg
Segmentation faultConfused (as per usual
)

after this I tried adding the package produced by makepkg using pacman, and didn't have the "error: cannot write to file" messages, but it still gives the segmentation fault.

That is strange because it works on my machine. Since 2 users gets the sig fault, it seems that the problem is with the package. It will be hard to figure this out... :?
I would suggest using gnuplot, as Kalidor mentionned earlier. I have used gnuplot for several years now and it is much better than scigraphica. When I built scigraphica, I was expecting something more advanced than gnuplot.
I am thinking about removing scigraphica from my repo...

Hello, I think you can use "qtiplot" instead.
