I have no idea how to fix it or what may be causing the problem.

I had the same problem - as weird as it sounds, I removed k9copy, vamps, and dvd+rw-tools, waited a few days, and tried to burn a DVD in k3b (which it couldn't do, as it was missing dvd+rw-tools). So, I reinstalled the package and decided to try k9copy and vamps again, and... it works perfectly. I don't understand why... guess that's just how awesome Linux is - it can fix itself!
Ok, guess that post didn't really help you at all

I used babelfish to translate from Dutch: http://babelfish.altavista.com/
The fix seems to be :
this are an incompatibility with vamps. Try with the latest version or vamps (0.98 or >)

Same error here running k9copy under Xfce4.
If I run it under KDE it works fine.
