Where to set framebuffer mode?

Just installed 2.6.20 and noticed framebuffer.
I was using fb few years ago and I remember I had fbset to change the modes and I needed to edit file called fb.modes or something like that.
How it works now?
How can I change framebuffer mode after boot?
How can I set boot mode? In bootloader?

Re: Where to set framebuffer mode?

At boot use the vga kernel boot parameter in  the bootloader config for veafb. For vesafb-tng and most hw specific fb implementations use the vbe format as an option in the video boot parameter (e.g.: video=intelfb:1024x768-32@60). After boot fbset and fb.modes are still the way to go.

Re: Where to set framebuffer mode?

I installed 2.6.20 and x-server doesn't start now. I am using nvidia - and it works perfectly with 2.6.19-2 damn nice nvidia logo:-)
But I don't know what to do with this;
Changes: Console framebuffers added: --------- - to use the other framebuffers, disable vesa first in boot manager video=vesa:off - load the correct framebuffer module from MODULES= in rc.conf - ... ???!!
