Steam launcher is getting stuck updating

I've been using steam on my Linux laptop for about a year without any issues, but after updating my system yesterday steam gets stuck downloading an update. Notably, it does work if I install it via flatpak, but I would like to avoid that as much as possible.

I'm running Arch Linux with Hyprland, and this is the output I get when running steam in the terminal

I kept in running for ca. 5 minutes after this, but nothing changed. I already tried reinstalling steam, steam --reset, and deleting all directories related to steam, but nothing worked so far.

Any help is appreciated

Hello,

I got the exact same issue and was able to fix it by downgrading my nvidia drivers.

This indicates that UI that downloads steam updates can't start. The download and the UI are linked so if the UI doesn't start the download will stop...

For me, It seems the last update to Arch (or Omarchy) uses nvidia drivers version 590 and my graphical card is a 1050 TI that just got moved to the legacy support and need 580.

I downgraded using the command and then it worked

yay -S nvidia-580xx-dkms nvidia-580xx-utils lib32-nvidia-580xx-utils

I don't know if your issue is related but might be.

Yeah I fixed the issue by now but for me the problem was that for some reason I had Nvidia drivers AND Amd drivers installed at the same time, while running an amd cpu with integrated graphics. This somehow wasn't an issue until the update at which point it stopped working until I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers
