Cannot detect the SD card: no lsblk, dmesg. HP Pavilion 15-dk0020na

As in the title.

lsblk does not show any devices. There is no updates in dmesg when I insert my SD card.

Is there anything I could try to make this work?
Thanks, Mat

Re: Cannot detect the SD card: no lsblk, dmesg. HP Pavilion 15-dk0020na

Post results of 'lspci' and 'lsusb' here.

Most probably the card reader is internally an USB device and should show up there. That (especially the ID part, XXXX:XXXX) could point you in the right direction to find the right Kernel driver to use, or to find if the device is usable at all in Linux.

Also, better use 'journalctl -f' to examine the log for messages while insterting the SD card. Dmesg might suffice (as Kernel should spit out information whenever it detects a new block device) in this case, or might not. In general the full syslog output could be more useful.

Thank Wild Penguin,

I've been sloppy with lspci, it contains this line:

04:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Alcor Micro AU6625 PCI-E Flash card reader controller

As a consequence, journal -f does not show anything. I'll look up the meaning of this lspci record once I am back at home. Cheers

Re: Cannot detect the SD card: no lsblk, dmesg. HP Pavilion 15-dk0020na

It seems that there is currently no driver for this device:
https://www.linux-hardware.org/index.ph … -103c-8478

HP currently on their website does not mention any drivers for Linux. There is one for windows but it cannot be downloaded so easily (it requires HP software just to download it).

I've sent an email to Alcor Micro if they have the driver.

Thanks, Mat

Hello Mat,

It's been a while since this post. Did you ever get a response from Alcor Micro?

Be advised, we have not seem them on the forums for a couple years -- don't be surprised if you don't hear back.
If  not, and if you want to pursue this, please start a new thread that you will own.  Thanks.
