w00t I successfully installed arch linux. Yay for me, i was testing out different desktop environments. Right now im using gnome although i do like fluxbox. For some reason KDM wouldn't install so i didn't get to try openbox. I especially like pacman, very easy to use. The install process was definitely a learning experience. Im now more familiar with the command shell, and it doesn't scare me anymore
. Whoever wrote the beginners guide is awesome, i followed it the whole way during my install.

Welcome!! ![]()
Your experiences mirror mine. Arch has taught me the most, and is my favorite distro for it.
Keep tweaking and you will be even more gratified and happy with your finished product!

Hello Lugz!
First off: welcome aboard. If you want to try OpenBox, why bother with KDM anyway? Just edit your .xinitrc and enter startx. ![]()

It's strange that you can't get kdm to work. Have you installed kdebase? That's where kdm lives, in case you didn't know (it's not obvious, since gdm has its own package) ![]()
Then again. Installing kdebase to run fluxbox seems a bit strange. Uncommenting startkde in .xinitrc should be a better solution...

yes actually. It seemed really hard at first but now i could probably do the same install in a really short period of time.

No i didnt know kdm was in kde base, i was just saying I wanted to use a login manager so it looks good and kdm recognizes open box and gdm doesnt.
But now im installing openbox instead,
Where do these people get the system monitor applications that are like embedded in the background ?

For system information try conky (text-style) or superkaramba(more graphical-style) and for wow you can use wine. on AUR http://aur.archlinux.org/ is even a special package of wine just for wow
