Brand new out-of-box QLed monitor brightness flickers and gets more erratic when I move the mouse, type, or use the scroll wheel. Most noticeable when I am not playing a game and just browsing the web or am using the terminal. When I turn on AMD FreeSync (I have AMD graphics and CPU) that makes it significantly worse to the point of being practically unusable.

Do you feel it's the monitor or display card causing the 'effect' ? Don't know about AMD cards, but there's lately been a driver issue on NVidia cards causing flickering. Easiest (temporary) solution was downgrading to older kernel & driver. I'm myself actually still on older kernel (6.17.9-arch1-1) & driver because of this. I guess I'll try updating later if/when fix is done. There are articles in the web about flickering on AMD cards too (amd gpu drivers).

Some more context would help what AMD gpu are you using and have you run pacman -Syu ?

Sapphire NITRO+ 7900XTX, and yes everything is up to date.

I didn't have an issue with this prior to upgrading my monitor, but my earlier one was an 8-inch LCD I got off alibaba and isn't really a good heuristic for the cause since that thing was terrible anyways. I will try downgrading drivers, and then kernel if it comes to that.

No luck, honestly may just return this monitor and get an actual OLED instead and see if that makes a difference.
Edit: Got a new OLED, still having the exact same issue where flickering occurs and its worsened upon turning on VRR.
