I ran a pacman update yesterday before shutting down and this morning lightdm failed to start.
the culprit was a custom xorg config I had set up previously to mitigate a problem with my AMD dGPU in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
once I moved that conf file out to my home directory and rebooted, everything started back up normally.
I have a Framework 16, but I'm not sure how narrow or wide the scope was for the issue I ran into.
