Experiencing random plasmashell freezes

Hello,
This is my first post here. I’m experiencing random freezes and sometimes the screen goes black and I can’t do anything but shut down using the power button.
Feel free to ask me further informations.

Steps already tried to correct this problem
  1. At first, I thought the problem was the distro itself (my last distro was Fedora 40), so I switched to Arch and I wiped my entire root partition. I only preserved my home partition. This hasn’t solved the problem, so I thought the problem is inside my home partition, maybe in some config file.

  2. I tried to delete some .config and .local/share files to reset plasma. I backed up my .config and my .local/share folder and then I’ve executed the commands:

    rm -rf ~/.config/plasma*
    rm -rf ~/.config/kde*
    rm -rf ~/.local/share/plasma*
    rm -rf ~/.local/share/kactivitymanagerd
    rm -rf ~/.cache/plasma*
  3. I searched the Internet and found out that I should try creating a new user and give it a shot, since the .config files are deleted and you get a fresh, clean installation, but it didn’t work. I kept getting system crashes while performing normal tasks such as using Firefox or taking notes with Joplin.

Re: Experiencing random plasmashell freezes

I can’t do anything but shut down using the power button.

Avoid that at all costs.
See if you can reboot by
1. frenetically pressing ctrl+alt+del
2. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Keyboa … el_(SysRq) + REISUB
Or even ssh into the "frozen" system.

If you can preform a clean reboot the error might show up in the journal of the *previous* boot.

sudo journalctl -b -1 | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

will upload that to 0x0.st

Applying random filters is not a good strategy - eg. relevant indicators might not be "errors" and kwin_wayland or rather even the kernel would be more likely relevant than plasmashell.

Ceterum censeo: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Troubleshooting
Limiting the c-state might be worth a shot.

Re: Experiencing random plasmashell freezes

Ok, I did not specify that I enabled SysRq, but sometimes I can't even use that combinations.

Today I updated the system and after SDDM login the UI froze indefinitely after 5-10s.  Fortunately, I used Timeshift to restore to a previous snapshot and now is working again with the 6.12.68-1-lts kernel.

I don't know what to do.

NVME disk check

Today I even checked my NVME drive with nvme-cli, but apparently it is not the problem:

I did not mention that I also checked my RAM for errors with MEMTEST

Plasma on AMD, lets start with the known ddcutil issue. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=312019
