I've problem with KDE. On clean installed arch 0.8 and 0.7.2 KDE not start as user.
startx gives
startkde: Starting up...
/opt/kde/bin/startkde: line 302: 2373 Segmentation fault ksplash --nodcop
/opt/kde/bin/startkde: line 336: 2375 Segmentation fault LD_BIND_NOW=true start_kdeinit --new-startup +kcminit_startup
startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.

startkde: Shutting down...
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.
Login from kdm also not works. In kdm.log I have
QSettings: error creating /tmp/2049372133/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/2049372133/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
QSettings: error creating /tmp/2049372133/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/2049372133/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
QSettings: error creating /tmp/2049372133/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/2049372133/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
On root kde works fine.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with /tmp, e.g. with its permissions?
Offline
I don't think so. I do chown -R for user and /tmp has permissions drwxrwxrwt 4 root root 4,0K tmp
When I starting as user on console dcopserver and ksplash I get segmentation fault.
On my old Arch, that I update from version 0.5 or 0.6 in kdm.log also is
QSettings: error creating /tmp/1339739184/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/1339739184/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
but kde work on user.
I don't know if it's important but I install from base cd.

I've got the same problem. I just updated a computer which hasn't been updated in the past 2 months. Even when I use the kdemod-packages, the error remains.

Try "pacman -R kde" and remove KDE.
Then do "pacman -Sy kde" and re-install. Perhaps re-installing will get whatever files you may not have gotten the first time and fix your installation.

I already did, but it didn't solve the problem. Even the qt library has been reinstalled, but I still get segmentation faults.

[SOLVED] Hey, I've found the cause for all the segfaults! This thread helped me. After removing nvidia and nvidia-utils, there were still 2 files in /usr/lib/tls:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 9. Aug 2006 libnvidia-tls.so.1 -> libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8762
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2324 9. Aug 2006 libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8762
I had to remove them manually before reinstalling nvidia and nvidia-utils. Now the segfaults are gone, yippieh!

Good to hear that you found a solution.
Could someone submit a pubreport? This must be an error in an Arch package.
