laptop keeps constantly crashing/shutting down seemingly at random

laptop is an Acer Aspire-A315-24PT

this has been going on for a while, it even happened while i was typing this, had to retype it

usually while playing a game it doesnt happen as much but when im idle, watching youtube or most annoyingly, transferring files it will go black screen and boot back up, sometimes it takes a few tries to boot it up and the screen will sometimes go black while still being on and i have to hold the power button to shut it down or else itll be stuck that way

it even kernal panics from time to time

i havent the faintest clue why this is happening, how to find out why, or how to solve this, im fairly new to arch and generally new to linux, its rather urgent at this point

Re: laptop keeps constantly crashing/shutting down seemingly at random

If I have the CPU correct (https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-specs/a … 220u.c3044) it's an entry level Zen 2 "Athlone", whereas the Arch Wiki link talks about Ryzen 5000 cpu's (esp. higher end).
Does the problem affect a broader class of CPUs than the wiki suggests?

Acording to google™ your notebook has a https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest … n-Graphics but the problem has meantime shown up w/ all sorts of Ryzen chips, yes.

Edit: spurious hard reboots are a consequence of
* underpowered
* overheated
* broken CPU
* bad RAM

or a parallel (hibernating, default behavior on "shutdown") windows installation.
