Hello, any idea why I wouldn't be able to install a printer with cups, only to trigger this error :
Unable to connect to BRW405BD8A0960D.local:631: Temporary failure in name resolution(this error pops up in kde printer manager and in cups web interface)
This what I did so far :
- I have checked that dns is enabled in ufw
- I have tried disabling the firewall (ufw)
- I also tried restarting both cups and avahi-daemon
ping BRW405BD8A0960D.localreturns the same error
avahi-resolve -n BRW405BD8A0960D.localresolves it into the right IP adress. A ping on the resolved IP adress is successful
Someone told me to install nss-mdns but it didn't solve much. Also, I managed to install printers on previous installs without difficulty.

Funny, I was encountering this exact error myself.
What fixed it for me was installing nss-mdns and making sure /etc/nsswitch.conf had this where it says "host:" - hosts: mymachines mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] files myhostname dns
Also, of course, make sure avahi-daemon and cups services are enabled and started. Make sure MDNS is allowed through UFS (or disable it) before trying.
