KDE/wayland and GPU card clock issue caused by kalarm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone experience the following issue recently with KDE/Wayland on NVidia cards?
Whenever something uses the GPU, for instance if I start a youtube video in firefox,
my nvidia gpu clocks up to full speed and stays there consuming 60-70 W, instead of the regular 10-12 W, despite the GPU
usage being 0-2% (basically nothing). Of course the fan speeds up to 45% and stays there.
i effectively have to log out of KDE in order for the GPU to properly clock down. I don't have this issue in LXDE.
Does this sound like a KDE bug or something related to wayland? Any thoughts on this?

EDIT: I tried stopping anything reported in nvtop using the card, basically plasma and wayland remained but the card still doesn't
want to clock down.

Edit2: after killing processes using the GPU one by one, I pinpointed to problem to kalarm. As soon as I restart this, the GPU clocks
up, and as soon as I kill it, everything is fine. The output of kalarm repeats the following over and over:
